Screenwriting

I started screenwriting in university and then dropped it after realizing that my method of writing with a partner and then submitting the script blindly to a TV show was pretty naive. In 2002 I started again by writing a feature-length script as an exercise in craft. You can see that here ("Tigers"). In 2003 I wrote two scripts, one Exclusion Zone, was one of the winners of the spring 2004 Praxis Center for Screenwriters competition and has been workshopped in the Summer session. As part of the same competition I was picked as the CityTV Diversity Fellow. The third script, a dark comedy about vampires and drugs I intend to develop further. As well, I've written a short that I submitted to another CBC screenwriting contest, a script I developed as part of the Lady X DV collaborative festival and another science fiction short / experimental short that I directed on MiniDV.

Hit and Run Music Video
Genre: Narrative Music Video - I wrote and directed a music video for my friend Keith Gillard and his band Fidgital. It had a loose plot concerning a hit man who uses a gunbrella to eliminate a host of mobsters. Read the script here >>

The Candidate
Genre: Science fiction drama - Short - A CBC competition sparked my interest in screenwriting after a long self-imposed absence. I wrote this Outer Limits-styled short about a woman who enters a worldwide physical and psychological competition for an unstated job. I didn't win but it caused me to think seriously about returning to screenwriting. Read the script here >>
