About
Combat Mission
Battlefront's
Combat Mission is a unique 3D turn-based
WWII strategy game for the PC and MacOS. Players control battalion
sized forces on either the German or Allied sides, planning out
orders in advanced in 1-minute intervals. After planning their orders,
one minute of action is played out in real-time with lots of destruction,
screaming and running. It's akin to radioing out instructions to
units (squads and vehicles) and then watching for one minute as
your plans are tested by reality.

Mission Building
The game was most definitely extended
by including an extremely fast level builder that allowed players
to create complex battles, terrain and unit balancing within a short
amount of time and upload them for other players or for playing
single player vs. the AI. Tile-based, it enabled players to lay
out different terrain, assign height levels and place combinations
of units within minutes. Unit balancing and timed-reinforcement
also added another level of complexity to the game.
Sample
scenario: "The Cochon Bridge"
I
created around two dozen scenarios for Combat Mission, many
of which are still available on the various scenario sites that
sprouted up since the first game was released in 2000. One of these
was a really evil scenario called
"Cochon Bridge". This was a scenario that got me a nice
email from Ken Levine from Irrational ("Thief", "System
Shock") Games.
By
the way, I really like tanks.
