Lady X: 'Exxies' announced
All the participants in the Lady X series cast their votes and gave the best episode prize to T.C. Lin's double-episode set in Taiwan. It really did have the best combination of production values and had an enjoyable, entertaining story. The other notable episode was Jami Jokkenen's episode from Finland. I'm not disappointed for not winning (even though episode 13 did get a few votes) because we were beaten by some very well-produced works. Read about it here >>

Buy an X-box game and get a 'hugging pillow'
First of all, I've played this game and it has more T & A than any game that isn't already X-rated. Secondly, I've seen pictures of these 'hugging pillows' and it is ICKY. Otaku madness rules.. Read about it here >>

Reorganizing writing section
Because of my recent activity in revisiting my writing career I've reorganized and pared down my writing section. I've added newer film reviews to that section and revamped my scripts section where you can read about what I've written in the past for the screen. Go here >>

More Praxis stuff
Had a good talk with the director of Praxis, the institute where I'm going to workshop my script. Evidently, I'm also going to be the CityTV Diversity Fellow this time around as well. The more exciting news is the possibility of working with one of three possible advisors, all three of whom are working writers, directors or story editors. All three possibles would be excellent contacts in the Canadian industry, all of whom have worked or made films or TV that I've seen. I won't jinx it by mentioning names but any of those would be good people to work with.

Cuban migrants cross to Florida in another, newer, car-boat
Two of the same Cuban migrants who tried to come across to the U.S. in a modified truck that had been converted into a boat tried again today, this time in a 1959 Buick. Read about it here >>

On watching David Attenborough and The Life of Birds
David Attenborough & friend
I really love David Attenborough nature documentaries. They're well produced and Attenborough always comes across as being so enthusiastic and knowledgeable. One of the latest ones is The Life of Birds which follows The Life of Mammals. I had an epiphany while watching the episode on the "Songs of Birds". It struck me how much early video game sound effects sounded like bird whistles. But then, in the final segment when Attenborough shows us the Australian Lyre Bird, I was blown away by the bird's mimicry as it copied nearly perfectly the sound of a camera shutter, a motor-driven camera and even the sound of a chainsaw. I would have refused to believe it ... that is, if Attenborough hadn't shown it was true. You can hear a sample of the Lyre Bird's powers on the PBS page. Scroll down and choose the audio clip on the right side (Real Player).

Special edition DVD sets are getting out of hand
I don't know if this is a joke or not, but take a look at this outrageous Alien DVD box set that looks like the DVDs are displayed in a giant transparent Alien head. See it here >>

On watching the Superbowl
I saw the first ten minutes and thought it was as awful as I had remembered pevious bowls. But then I went home and made my dinner and needed to watch something. And I settled down to watch what turned out to be an exciting last quarter. I'm not a fan of football and I'm even less of a fan of American football. What I saw in the first quarter was a lack luster possession on both sides where one team would try passing for the first down, give up, and then try and grind out their possession. In the last quarter both teams were throwing bombs. Good game. No, I did not catch Janet Jackson's boobie flash nor did I pay attention to the commercials.

Vote Fidgital
I noticed my good friend Keith Gillard's CD prominently displayed at the local A&B Sound right next to Air (awesome album BTW) and their new release. So again he is in good company. You can now vote for Fidgital at the Canadian Music Week's independent electronica act category here. One vote per computer >>
