  Half-Life 2 Preview
You again
There have been amazing previews of the sequel to the bestselling Half-Life, four years in the making (has it really been that long?). Due sometime this fall, Half-Life follows the further adventures of Black Mesa scientist Gordon Freeman, this time transported to a European city under attack from aliens. Seems to me I lost a lot of my life to that game.  Here's one of the better previews >>

Little is known about the Wachowskis
With the Matrix Reloaded queued up on most moviewatcher's schedules next week, it's surprising that the minds behind the trilogy have so far escaped the hype machine and have kept out of site. This Toronto Star article shows what little is known about the creative brothers >>

The Canucks lose 4-2 and the series 4-3
Another disappointment. Full marks to the Wild for sticking with coach Jacques Lemaire's system. The Canucks had the Wild down 2-0 and they just kept at their game. A lucky goal got them within 1 in the second. In the third, a slapshot from the point that Cloutier should have had and they were tied. Then a bad goal on a defensive breakdown put Minnesota up by one. The Canucks were still within reach but, in a recurring story of the playoffs, Todd Bertuzzi took an untimely penalty. The Wild capitalized on it and the game was over.

The Canucks blew a series in which they led 3-1 but actually never really solved the Wild's defensive system in their own zone, nor could they contend with the Wild's late man attack. There will be lots of questions in the off-season for Vancouver in the areas of defense, goaltending and the ability of its stars to persevere in the face of a full on defense as Minnesota put up.

Now, the Wild go on to face the Might Ducks of Anaheim in the Western Conference final, a matchup nobody would have predicted. Now, I can go back to being productive in my off-work hours!

Blow Canucks Blow
Last night I was somewhat saved when I couldn't watch the game because of screenwriting class. From what I heard, the Canucks were again pummeled by the Minnesota Wild who have played every bit the better team. In less than four hours, they play in a sudden death game to decide the winner of the series, the sagging Canucks or the suddenly high scoring Wild.

Speaking of Puking
Here's a uniquely disturbing story with a ray of light that nutritionists might get a kick out of. It seems residents in a Wisconsin neighbourhood had been staking out their garbage bins hoping to catch whoever it was who had been disposing of big bags full of liquid food wastes. Finally, they caught whoever was responsible and the truth is pukalicious. Read it about it here >>

Indiana Jones DVD Set
Finally, the release of the trilogy on DVD has been announced, complete with shameless trailer. I hate how they've renamed the first movie: Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. Still, gotta have it, even if the third movie sucked. See the news here >>

Mostly in shock
If I wasn't so much in shock, I might feel depressed after the Canucks blew their chance to finish off the Minnesota Wild last night, instead completely collapsing in a 7-2 loss. Tied 1-1 after the first period, the Canucks seemed to be completely at ease, hitting the Wild shift after shift and dictating most of the play. However, an early powerplay goal against them, followed by a Marion Gaborik goal completely deflated them in the second and they left the period buried underneath a 6-1 score. If I hadn't already seen this team completely lose composure in the playoffs (they lost 6-0 against the Blues in round one), I would be in greater shock. The difference in this game is that they were doing quite well after 20 minutes and then for some reason went into a collective funk from which they never recovered. Obviously, some very interesting team psychology at work now as they have to forget this nightmare and regain what had brought them this far.
