Undead rise in Vancouver again - thousands strong
I've been to a number of Zombie Walks now but stopped going because it's so much work. It's not the walking, it's the running around taking photographs. Plus, to be in the spirit of things, you have to be part of it, not just gawk and not just take pictures. So I hadn't been there for three or more years so I was amused to see that the hordes of the undead had swelled. From the picture below I would estimate 2000 easily, and probably more.
I shot about a thousand frames on my 7D, all in JPEG mode since I never was going to spend much time editing and I wanted space. This time with a 32gb card I had no real worries about running out. This would be my first real event using the 7D and my other professional gear: Thinktank holster for the 100-400L and my Tamron zoom.
The 7D acquires very quickly (especially if the subject is um nice like above). It really is something. On the Tamron 28-75 it is slowed down by the speed of that lens but it is more than matched when paired with the 100-400L. The 7D with default focus points just seems very intelligent in its choices. I never had problems with acquisition.
It being a zombie walk one would normally be concerned about blood and gore but the 7D is weather resistant. However, some zombie blood -- my recipe for example -- uses sugar-based recipes and that's not something you want baking on your lens. I can't imagine how icky some of this got for more gored up people.
So I kept my distance for the most part, though the fellow above got close.
I tried to play the part of Louis from the Left4Dead games. I'm not black but believe me after a day in the direct sun I got pretty cooked. That's me and my bud Gus below:
There were zombie kids too:
Zombie buddies:
Zombies from all walks of life and professions:
You may recognize one of my wonderful models Rheannon here among the undead:
This girl freaked the hell out of me:
And also the patriotism from the 2010 Olympics is still in effect among the living dead:
This fellow had an unfortunate accident that made him one of the undead:
As did this guy. Good advertising for Canon?
Fun times fun times... there's a whole lot more in my Vancouver Zombiewalk 2010 set.
