Sunset Portrait-2f

Mathew & Friend | Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 on Canon 7D

Last week I was invited out by a photographer I knew who moved away from Vancouver and went to work in Toronto. I didn't get to stay long but we hung out on the beach and shots portraits of each other. Mathew is one of the few photographers I knew back when I started reaching out to others who is actually living doing it. From photowalks to art to now doing studio work. Good for him.

Mathew awakened a bit of equipment lust in me when I saw him working with his Mamiya RZ that he is holding. I did shoot him black and white with my Mamiya 645 but an RZ's 6x7 format gives you some more oomph in the negative.

This shot is really a cheat. I hadn't been doing much flash photography recently and even forgot how the flash mode on my meter worked. The original shot was too overexposed in the background. So in Lightroom I made a virtual copy of the same shot, processed one for the background with better exposure and kept the original because Mathew and his friend were nicer. In Photoshop I combined the two images with a mask. Now it's more balanced.
