Back from weekend on the water

Sundown Sailboat

Sundown Sailboat on Indian Arm | Canon EF 100-400L on Canon 7D

No, that's not the boat I was on. The boat I was on was an 11-ft two-man canoe. No fabulous babes, just me and my bud Dylan padding for hours to get anywhere while people in boats like this zipped past us once or twice even, happily waving as they flashed past us at twenty times the speed. Still, the time on the water was pretty idyllic and the weather awesome. Didn't see much wildlife except for harbour seals basking on rocks and logs, ravens and seagulls.

As much as the canoe helped us bring a lot of gear with us, I have to say that I wasn't very confident in the canoe as a stable platform. Frankly, I had my heart pumping every time one of us shifted an inch to grab something out of a bag - to say nothing for whenever a clueless speedboater failed to slow down and control their wake.

The photos I'm waiting to develop, however, could be interesting as they would be the second or third time I've tried astrophotography, mainly long-exposure star trails. I had two very clear nights and tried out various exposures. Like on every trip, I managed to break one thing, a cheap shutter release. Next time I'll bring several. Anyway, the images better be good as tungsten film, I've discovered, is expensive to buy and process.
